According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Duggar, aged 31, is charged with two counts of child sex abuse connected to troubling incidents that occurred in 2020. It has been reported that Duggar allegedly asked the young girl to sit on his lap, and later requested she join him on a couch where he covered them with a blanket. The sheriff’s office detailed that during this period Duggar manipulated the child’s underwear and touched her inappropriately, with the victim asserting that he eventually apologised, leading to an end of the actions.
In response to the allegations surrounding her cousin, Amy Duggar King expressed her profound shock and dismay. “I am sickened, heartbroken and deeply angry,” she said in a statement released on 20 March. She emphasised her overwhelming concern for the victim, highlighting the bravery required to come forward after such a traumatic experience.

Further articulating her feelings, Amy expressed disappointment in the broader environment that allowed such behaviour to persist, stating, “For years, I have spoken out about the importance of truth, accountability and protecting children.” Her comments underline her belief that familial ties should never equate to trust, particularly in matters pertaining to the safety of children. She has aimed to dismantle harmful cycles within her family, advocating for child protection and accountability in an environment she described as toxic.

Amy’s statement also conveyed empathy for Duggar’s wife, Kendra, and their children. She extended prayers for all those affected, wishing strength and protection as they navigate the difficult circumstances following the allegations. “I pray for justice to be served to the fullest,” she added, indicating the seriousness with which she views the situation.
Joseph Duggar made his initial court appearance via Zoom, where he waived his right to an extradition hearing. Being held in a Washington County jail, he is set to be extradited to Bay County to answer the charges against him. The seriousness of the allegations has led to widespread condemnation, not only from Amy but also from other family members, including Jill Duggar Dillard, who conveyed her shock through a family blog, expressing strong denunciation of abuse.
Jill’s family expressed their support for the victim and her family, stating, “We strongly condemn abuse and hope that justice will be achieved.” They extended their prayers to the young girl, highlighting their commitment to providing her with the necessary support as she navigates this distressing ordeal.
The Duggar family has not been unfamiliar with controversy, as Joseph’s brother Josh previously admitted to molesting siblings and was later convicted of possession of child sexual abuse material. The troubled history of the family in relation to issues of abuse has amplified public scrutiny surrounding the recent allegations against Joseph.
As the situation unfolds, the Duggar family remains under the glare of public interest, with many hoping for accountability and justice for those affected. The incident has reignited discussions on the importance of safeguarding children and the need for a supportive and transparent environment for victims to come forward.
