Demi Lovato, the renowned singer and actress, has recently spoken candidly about her experiences surrounding her wedding planning, particularly the challenge of selecting the menu. Lovato tied the knot with musician Jordan “Jutes” Lutes on May 25, 2025, in a picturesque ceremony held in Santa Barbara, California.

As part of the promotional activities for her forthcoming cookbook, *One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food*, Lovato attended an event at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. During this session, she engaged in a discussion with influencer and author Eli Rallo, elaborating on how her personal struggles with an eating disorder have shaped her journey in both her culinary pursuits and her relationships.
The 33-year-old artist revealed that her decision to create a cookbook is a reflection of her progress in recovery from disordered eating. “My first time going into treatment for an eating disorder was when I was 18. It’s taken me a long time to get comfortable around food and to step into the kitchen,” Lovato shared, highlighting the lengthy and often arduous nature of recovery.
Lovato expressed pride in her achievements thus far, noting her excitement to share the recipes she has designed. Her reflections showcase a significant transformation in her relationship with food, illustrating the emotional connection and personal growth that have accompanied her culinary journey.
When it came to planning her wedding, Lovato admitted that selecting the menu was a daunting task. She emphasised the importance of the culinary choices and how integral they were to the celebration. The couple meticulously organised a tasting session at their home, during which a caterer provided 18 different dishes for them to consider. “That was intimidating,” she recalled, “but I got through it with the support of my loving husband.”
Working alongside Lutes, Lovato wanted to ensure that the menu featured meals that they both loved. Ultimately, they successfully composed an appealing selection that resonated with their personal tastes. Lovato noted, “We were particular about what we had at the wedding,” indicating the thoughtfulness that went into their choices.
The couple’s wedding festivities were not solely defined by the food; music also played a significant role in their special day. Lovato mentioned that the event featured a performance from John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, followed by a DJ set from socialite Paris Hilton. The joyous atmosphere allowed Lovato to fully enjoy herself on the dance floor, remarking with humour that she ended up “dripping” with sweat by the end of the night.
Since their wedding, Lovato and Lutes have embraced their time together in the kitchen, preparing numerous meals as they embark on their married life. Interestingly, they have dubbed one dish “honeymoon chicken”, which is a twist on a recipe Lovato had adapted from a viral social media sensation. She explained, “I made him the viral marry me chicken recipe when we were not married yet, and I added my own spin to it, which is in the book. Since we’re married now, it’s honeymoon chicken.”
With their first wedding anniversary approaching, Lovato shared her feelings about married life, stating that her affection for Lutes continues to deepen. Reflecting on the initial moments of their union, she expressed, “I genuinely thought on my wedding day, ‘I can’t love this man any more than I already do.’” As time has passed, Lovato finds herself thrilled to discover new depths of love for her husband every day.
Excited about their life together, she described their relationship as “the best” and compared it to a continuous sleepover filled with laughter and lasting joy. “We will stay up so late just laughing until we’re crying,” she added, revealing her enthusiasm for the companionship they share.
*One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food*, aimed at promoting healthier relationships with food, is set for release on March 31. In light of Lovato’s openness about her recovery journey, the cookbook serves as a significant project that embodies her personal experiences and aspirations.
For anyone dealing with eating disorders, Lovato’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of support and understanding in the recovery process.
