Kathy Griffin has unveiled a striking makeover, revealing a brand new platinum blonde hairstyle on her Instagram account. The change is a considerable departure from her iconic fiery red locks, showcasing a fresh look that has caught the attention of her fans. The 65-year-old comedian debuted the bold transformation on March 16, where she sported long hair with bangs, dressed in a casual outfit that included a sweatshirt emblazoned with the phrase “Ice Out” paired with jeans.

In her post, Griffin leaned into the surprise surrounding her new appearance, teasing her audience with the caption: “And you guys thought you knew me…” This hair change comes shortly after she openly discussed undergoing her third facelift, along with an upper eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, in the lead-up to her milestone birthday. The procedures were performed by renowned Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Ben Talei, whom she described as a key player in her transformative journey.

In a candid moment during her “Talk Your Head Off” podcast, Griffin referred to herself as “so vain” for opting for the procedures, while emphasising her desire for audiences to appreciate her humour over her physical appearance. “No one has ever gone to a Kathy Griffin show to see her beautiful, youthful face,” she stated, adding that she wanted spectators to focus on her comedy rather than her looks. When preparing for her surgery, she even instructed the doctor to give her a “good yank” to achieve the desired results.
Griffin’s decision to undergo surgery stems from a deeply personal motivation; following two battles with cancer, including a stage one lung cancer diagnosis in August 2021, she sought to embrace a positive change. “I thought, you know what, I want to do a surgery where afterwards it’s something more positive and my vanity took over,” she shared, highlighting the transformative power of her procedures amidst the difficult experiences she has faced.
During an appearance on the “Good Guys” podcast last November, she revealed that the cost of her latest enhancements was substantial, disclosing that she spent an eye-watering $218,000 on her surgeries. With her characteristic humour, she joked about the number of “dick jokes” she would need to perform in order to pay off that hefty bill, blending her candidness with her comedic persona.
Throughout her career, Griffin has been transparent about her struggles with body image and beauty standards in Hollywood. In her 2009 memoir, “Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin,” she reminisced about receiving unsolicited advice regarding her appearance, particularly about her nose. “I was told repeatedly, ‘You would be pretty if it weren’t for that nose,” she wrote, detailing how such comments influenced her decision to undergo a nose job at the age of 26. Looking back, she acknowledged the pressure that led her to change her appearance.
However, Griffin now appears to be embracing her identity, feeling confident enough to flaunt her figure in a bikini during a recent appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show in November 2025. Her confidence is a stark contrast to her earlier insecurities, as she proclaimed, “I have no shame”.
Alongside her physical transformation, Griffin seems to be entering a new chapter in her dating life as well. At the Out100 Celebration last fall, she humorously admitted to being active on multiple dating apps. “I’m on four freaking apps. It’s just embarrassing,” she remarked, sharing that although she had been on three dates with nice men, she felt no significant connection with them. Her openness about her dating experiences, even when finding it somewhat amusing, conveys a fearless approach to life as she continues to navigate both her personal and professional spheres.
In the face of recent changes and challenges, Kathy Griffin’s ability to connect with her audience remains undiminished, underpinning her resilience and sheer determination to embrace life on her own terms. Whether through her comedy or candid life updates, she continues to engage and inspire many, showcasing that true beauty emanates beyond mere aesthetics.
