In a heartwarming turn of events, a malnourished bobcat kitten discovered in Southern California has experienced a remarkable recovery thanks to a series of dedicated rescues and an unexpected donor. The kitten was initially found in a critical state, unresponsive and barely clinging to life, in October 2025 by a gardener in San Clemente.

The San Diego Humane Society shared details of the rescue on their social media platform, featuring images that showcased the kitten’s dire condition prior to her recovery. The ailing animal was emaciated, anemic, and suffered from mange, with her once lustrous fur now matted and sparse. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the Humane Society swiftly transferred the kitten to Serrano Animal & Bird Hospital in Lake Forest, California, where veterinarians immediately commenced resuscitation efforts.
Among the more extraordinary moments during her emergency treatment was the administration of a blood transfusion from a domestic cat, a surprisingly rare but life-saving measure. This intervention proved crucial in stabilising the kitten’s condition and providing her with the strength needed to begin her road to recovery.
Once sufficiently stable, the bobcat kitten was transported by officials from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to the Humane Society’s Project Wildlife rehabilitation programme at their Ramona Campus.
