In a candid update shared on her Instagram Stories, Mayci Neeley, star of the reality series “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” highlighted the importance of maternal instincts after her eight-month-old daughter, Charli, faced serious health issues. Mayci, along with her husband, Jacob Neeley, rushed Charli to the hospital due to breathing difficulties and an ear infection, an experience which she detailed in her posts.

On 12 March, Mayci informed her followers of the troubling experience, emphasising how pivotal it was for her to act on her maternal instincts. She began her post with a heartfelt commentary on the incident, accompanied by a photograph featuring Charli alongside Jacob in the hospital setting. “I wanted to give an update for awareness [because] trusting my instincts was absolutely crucial,” she stated.

The concern emerged during one of Mayci’s work meetings when an uneasy feeling about Charli began to build within her. She and Jacob had welcomed Charli into their family on 26 July 2022. Mayci recounted specifically how she had felt something was amiss when their nanny was holding Charli. “I could tell just by touching her that her temperature was high,” shared Mayci, revealing that upon checking, they discovered Charli’s temperature was at an alarming 102°F.

Upon noticing that Charli’s stomach was contracting abnormally as she breathed, Mayci and Jacob made the decision to take their daughter to a nearby hospital that their paediatrician had recommended for suction treatment. At the medical facility, doctors assessed Charli’s condition and noted that her breathing sounded “wheezy,” recommending immediate breathing treatment.
As the doctors continued their evaluation, they determined that Charli was also suffering from an ear infection. Subsequently, the couple was advised to take her to the emergency room for further examination where Charli was administered treatment, including steroids and antibiotics to alleviate her symptoms. Due to Charli’s fluctuating oxygen levels, physicians deliberated on whether to discharge her. Ultimately, Charli was admitted overnight for further monitoring.
Reflecting on the experience, Mayci conveyed the overwhelming emotions she felt during this challenging time. “The anxiety, stress, and sadness I felt was unreal,” she wrote on Instagram. However, she expressed immense gratitude that she had trusted her instincts. She highlighted the reassurance provided by medical staff, who commended her for seeking help: “The doctor kept telling me, ‘You did the right thing by coming in,’ which reassured me,” she noted.
Having been discharged, Charli was advised to use supplemental oxygen while resting at home. In an update following their return, Mayci shared a joyful moment: “We are home and Charli girl finally smiled for the first time in a few days which makes me feel like she’s finally feeling better,” she exclaimed.
Mayci took this opportunity not only to update her followers about Charli’s condition but also to remind fellow parents of the importance of heeding their instincts. “I honestly didn’t really realise how bad she was struggling until the hospital, so I’m so so so grateful we took her in,” she conveyed. Furthermore, she referenced her initial plans to travel to New York for work, which she had cancelled just days earlier, reflecting on what she interpreted as divine intervention in her decision-making.
Interestingly, her Instagram posts coincided with the premiere of season four of “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” on Hulu, where viewers can see Mayci navigate postpartum life alongside other cast members. The new season explores her experiences as a mother to three children, including son Hudson, 9, and daughter Harlow, 5, and showcases her journey as she promotes her memoir, “Told You So.”
As the series gains traction and audiences tune in to witness the unfolding storylines, Mayci’s heartfelt messages resonate deeply, particularly for parents navigating similar challenges. Her experience is a poignant reminder of the vital role parental intuition plays in safeguarding the health and well-being of children.
