A woman from Florida has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident at the home of pop star Rihanna in Beverly Hills, California, which took place on March 8. Ivanna Ortiz is accused of firing multiple rounds at the singer’s residence whilst she was present with her family. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the frightening event.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to an emergency call reporting gunfire at approximately 1:15 p.m. local time. Witnesses indicated that around ten shots were fired from a white Tesla Model 3, which subsequently fled the scene. Upon their arrival, officers discovered bullet holes in a gate and an RV parked in the driveway of Rihanna’s home.

At the time of the shooting, Rihanna was at her home with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, along with their three children, her mother, and two staff members. According to sources close to the situation, the incident left Rihanna feeling “terrified” and confused about why someone would target her family. Fortunately, despite the chaos, the entire family was unharmed.
Following the shooting, law enforcement managed to track down Ortiz to a shopping centre parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where she was arrested. During a search of her vehicle, officers found an assault rifle and several shell casings. Reports indicate that Ortiz had used an “AR-15 type rifle” during the incident.
Subsequently, Ortiz was booked on suspicion of attempted murder. The charges against her expanded to include ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. Prosecutors have described the actions as “willful, deliberate, and premeditated,” stressing that Ortiz had driven to Rihanna’s home with the intent to commit murder.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman remarked during a press conference that the shooting endangered the lives of residents in the area, stating, “Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous.” He emphasised that such reckless violence will not be tolerated and indicated that those involved will face serious legal consequences.
Early legal proceedings saw Ortiz’s attorney initially file a plea of not guilty on her behalf, although they later withdrew this plea to postpone her arraignment, now scheduled for March 25. Her bail was set at an impressive $1.8 million as the judicial process continues.
To date, investigations have not established any direct connection between Ortiz and Rihanna. However, a Facebook profile believed to belong to Ortiz contains several posts mentioning the singer, including one that indicated a personal grievance. A post from February 23 appeared to challenge Rihanna directly, stating, “say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you’re talking to me.”
Records reveal that Ortiz has worked as a licensed speech pathologist since 2024 but also show a history of arrests. The nature of her grievances or motivations remain unclear.
This alarming incident underscores the serious issue of gun violence, particularly concerning figures in the public eye. As authorities continue to investigate, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of individuals in similar circumstances and addressing the root causes that lead to such violent outbursts. The potential repercussions for Ortiz, should she be convicted, could result in a lengthy prison sentence, a stark reminder of the consequences that stem from such dangerous behaviour.
