Actress Tia Mowry recently shared an exclusive story with PEOPLE about how her 13-year-old son, Cree, helped calm her nerves during a bumpy flight experience. Mowry, 46, discussed the incident at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards held in Los Angeles on Feb. 27, where she opened up about her fear of flying and the comforting words her son provided.

Opening up about her anxiety towards flying, Mowry admitted, “I don’t like to fly.” She went on to recall the moment she was flying back from Canada and feeling nervous about turbulence, sharing how Cree came to her rescue. She said, “He was like, ‘Mom, it’s okay. Once you get up to a certain altitude, everything’s going to be fine. You’re okay. Send me a photo of what it looks like outside.’”
Mowry also highlighted Cree’s passion for aviation, mentioning, “My point is that he’s so into flying right now, and I was like, ‘God, you’re very funny,’ because I don’t like to fly, but I feel like, if all is well, and he continues down this path, he’s gonna be a pilot.” The actress hinted at enrolling Cree in flight school and expressed her amusement at his enthusiasm for flying.
Alongside her son Cree, Mowry gave an update on her 6-year-old daughter, Cairo, revealing, “Cairo is running track… She’s doing chess, she’s doing hip hop classes. I always say this but I want to be Cairo when I grow up! Like this girl is independent, she is funny and smart.” Mowry also acknowledged Cree’s excellence, expressing her gratitude for her two children.
In addition to discussing her family life, Mowry reflected on the challenges of the new year, stating, “You know, I was like, ‘What is this new year showing me?’ We had the fires and some other things. It’s teaching me to just be prepared. You know, I think preparation is so incredibly important. I’m all about being present, right, and staying present.”
Expressing her gratitude for her current ventures, Mowry shared, “I feel very blessed to be here… And I have so much gratitude to be doing still what I love to do. To be able to be an entrepreneur, to be an actress, to be filming content for socials and just still in the place of inspiring and encouraging.” She concluded by highlighting the joy she finds in living a purpose-driven life despite external noise.
In conclusion, Tia Mowry’s experience with her son Cree exemplifies the reassuring bond between a mother and her child during moments of anxiety, while also showcasing the bond she shares with both her children as they navigate through various interests and activities. The actress’s reflections on gratitude and preparation offer a poignant reminder of the importance of cherishing family moments and staying focused on personal growth and aspirations in the face of challenges.
