**Heroic Rescue: Officer and Bystanders Save Man from Fiery Crash**
In an extraordinary display of bravery, a police officer and two bystanders rescued a 78-year-old man from a burning vehicle following a serious road accident in Easton, Massachusetts. The incident, which occurred on February 27, has gained attention due to dramatic body camera footage that captured the moment of rescue.
At around 2 a.m. local time, Francis Leverone was driving along Route 138 when his truck collided with a parked dump truck that was loaded with snow. Leverone, who had just completed a late-night shift at a Brockton restaurant, was unaware of the imminent danger until the crash occurred.
The situation quickly worsened when another vehicle rear-ended Leverone’s truck, igniting both vehicles in flames. Despite sustaining severe injuries, including a dislocated leg and hip, the elderly man found himself trapped inside his vehicle. Fortunately, help was on the way.
Easton Police Officer Dean Soucie, who responded to the scene, was joined by two brothers who happened to be passing by. Together, they worked quickly to extract Leverone from the wreckage. Body camera footage released by the Easton Police Department shows Officer Soucie breaking into the truck and coordinating the rescue effort with the brothers.
Leverone recounted his rescue experience, saying, “I see them getting under my arms. I guess one of the brothers got inside the truck trying to get my leg untangled, so I could stretch it, then they pulled me straight out.” The swift actions of the officer and bystanders undoubtedly saved his life.
While Leverone faced multiple injuries, including a dislocated hip, a broken wrist, and significant cuts to his face, his recovery is ongoing. His wife, Dee Leverone, expressed her deep gratitude for those who came to her husband’s aid, stating, “I’m just thankful for the people that got him out. Very thankful.”
Officer Soucie has since praised the efforts of the two brothers, who he described as “absolutely awesome.” He acknowledged their quick response, remarking, “They jumped into action like it was nothing.”
Easton Police Chief Keith Boone also highlighted the extraordinary actions of Officer Soucie and the good Samaritans. He stated, “He saved a life last night. He is an exemplary police officer and this is just one example. I think he’s a hero.” Chief Boone’s comments reflect a broader appreciation for the teamwork that made the rescue possible.
