Michelle Pfeiffer Says Taylor Sheridan Refused to Let Her Read the Script Before Agreeing to Do “The Madison”

Michelle Pfeiffer has opened up about her decision to join the cast of the upcoming series, *The Madison*, revealing that she committed to the role without ever reading a script. During the premiere of the series in New York City on 9 March, the actress discussed her unusual journey to the project, which premieres on 14 March on Paramount+.

Pfeiffer, known for her roles in numerous acclaimed films, stated that she had initially requested to review a script before accepting the role. However, the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, had a different approach in mind. “I said, ‘Well, I’d really love to read something,’” she explained, but Sheridan insisted on casting first, stating, “No, I really like to cast it first and then I write.” This unconventional method led to a considerable back-and-forth between the two, with Pfeiffer expressing her desire to read material before finalising her commitment.

Ultimately, Pfeiffer realised she would not prevail in her insistence and chose to commit to the project. “I was either going to have to commit or give it up,” she reflected. This determination to step into the unknown has seemingly paid off, with the actress now embracing her role in this ambitious new series.

In *The Madison*, Pfeiffer portrays Stacy Clyburn, a character grappling with profound grief as she transitions from the hustle and bustle of New York City to a quieter life in Montana. According to the show’s promotional material, it offers a heartfelt exploration of grief and human connection, following a family as they navigate their new reality while bonding over activities such as fishing.

The series boasts a notable ensemble cast, featuring established actors like Kurt Russell, Patrick J. Adams, and Matthew Fox. During the premiere, Sheridan addressed the audience, expressing his pride in the effort invested by the entire crew. “I can’t stand these things,” he joked about public appearances, highlighting the significance of the project to him.

Sheridan explained the challenges faced during production, stating, “I don’t make anything. I write things down and then I bring together a cast and a crew and I ask them to go make it.” His comments reflect the demanding nature of shooting in varied terrains, from rivers to mountains, which required a robust commitment from the crew.

In her interactions with Entertainment Tonight, Pfeiffer mentioned feeling a sense of heavy responsibility stepping into a leading role in *The Madison*. She indicated that during her preparation for the role, she took the time to review some of Sheridan’s previous works, including popular shows like *Yellowstone* and *Special Ops: Lioness*.

Pfeiffer also expressed excitement about reuniting with Kurt Russell, with whom she previously starred in the 1988 film *Tequila Sunrise*. She remarked that working with him felt as though no time had passed since their last collaboration. “He’s just the most fun,” she said. “You feel so safe working with him. He’ll come back at you no matter what you throw at him.” Pfeiffer praised Russell’s performance in the upcoming series, insisting that he is “so good” in his role.

*The Madison* is set to launch with three episodes on Paramount+ on 14 March, with another three episodes scheduled for release on 21 March.
