Christian Barmore, a defensive tackle for the New England Patriots, has had domestic violence charges against him dropped due to insufficient evidence, as announced by Bristol County prosecutors. The decision was made public on Monday, March 9, during a hearing at Attleboro District Court, where it was stated that the case was “not viable for prosecution.”

Barmore had initially faced charges of misdemeanor domestic assault and battery following an incident on August 8, 2025, at his Mansfield, Massachusetts home. His then-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child, reported the charges against him in December of the same year. Prosecutors noted that the complainant no longer resides in Massachusetts and did not wish to travel back to the state for the legal proceedings.
Deputy Bristol District Attorney Jennifer Sowa requested a day to file for the motion to dismiss the case in court, which was subsequently granted by the judge. Following the ruling, Thomas M. Quinn III, Bristol County District Attorney, addressed reporters, highlighting the challenges posed by the complainant’s absence.
In a statement released after the ruling, Barmore’s attorney, David Meier, expressed gratitude towards the District Attorney’s Office for their thorough evaluation of the facts. He emphasised that they reviewed the materials provided by Barmore’s legal team and acted fairly in the interests of justice.
The domestic charges stemmed from an alleged altercation between Barmore and his then-girlfriend regarding the room’s air conditioning settings, as described in a criminal complaint. The report indicated a dispute over food that escalated to a physical confrontation. It was claimed that during the argument, Barmore allegedly threw his girlfriend to the ground and impeded her attempts to leave the situation.
According to the complaint, the woman recounted how she attempted to call for help before allegedly being physically restrained by Barmore. Following the altercation, she was reportedly able to leave the residence with her daughter, having called a car service provided by the Patriots.
The New England Patriots organisation acknowledged being informed of the incident in a timely manner when it first occurred. In December 2025, the team released a statement confirming their awareness of the situation while reaffirming their commitment to monitoring the matter closely as it progressed through the legal system.
As Barmore moves forward with his career, the dropping of the charges allows him to focus on football. Nonetheless, the incident raises important discussions surrounding issues of domestic violence and the complexities involved in such legal cases, especially when victims reside out of state.
