N.J. Man Who Killed His Girlfriend, Stuffed Body in Refrigerator Learns Fate

Christopher Blevins, a 46-year-old man from New Jersey, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the tragic murder of his girlfriend, Laura Hughes. This case has drawn significant attention due to the disturbing circumstances surrounding Hughes’s death and the subsequent investigation that led to Blevins’s arrest.

Laura Hughes, a mother of two, was found dead in an abandoned refrigerator located in Belleplain State Forest, in Cape May County. Her body was wrapped in a sleeping bag and secured inside the refrigerator, which had been covered with a rug. The gruesome discovery was made on December 22, 2024, following an investigation triggered by the suspicious circumstances of her disappearance.

Authorities allege that Blevins strangled Hughes in a violent act before disposing of her body in the refrigerator. Initial reports indicated that he fled to Mexico shortly after the murder, evading law enforcement until he eventually returned to the United States. Blevins was apprehended in California, leading to a thorough investigation by the New Jersey State Police and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay praised the investigative teams for their exceptional work in bringing Blevins to justice. According to media reports, he entered his plea for first-degree aggravated manslaughter in October 2025.
