In a remarkable turn of events, Sarah Boll has taken her apartment on an extraordinary journey from a nautical Titanic theme to a vibrant homage to *The Wizard of Oz*. This transformation was largely inspired by suggestions from her TikTok followers, who offered a plethora of creative ideas after she announced her desire for a change.
Boll first gained popularity online last year when she unveiled her Titanic-themed apartment, a tribute to one of her all-time favourite films. Dressed in nautical decor, her space featured a custom “iceberg” bathroom and faux portholes that gave a sense of being aboard the ill-fated vessel. However, after tiring of her sea-inspired design, Boll sought inspiration from her TikTok community. One suggestion stuck out: a theme based on *The Wizard of Oz*.
The ambitious transformation saw Boll spend several days dismantling her Titanic decor. Most of the items, including blue fabric meant to invoke the ocean and various maritime knick-knacks, were neatly packed away into a closet in her apartment. The only remnants of the Titanic theme that remain are two model ships, which continue to reside in her kitchen.
Beginning her redesign process in October 2025, Boll meticulously mapped out her vision for the Oz-inspired apartment. Her procurement efforts involved sourcing an array of items from popular online retailers such as Amazon, Etsy, and eBay, while also venturing into shops like Anthropologie and Pottery Barn for unique pieces.
The layout of her living room was reimagined as Dorothy’s house, complete with a whimsical paper tornado that cascades from the ceiling. A playful yellow brick road winds its way through the flat, leading visitors into a full-green, fluorescent room, representing the Emerald City. One of Boll’s favourite features is the “little windows” in her recreation of Dorothy’s house.
Although she cannot pinpoint the exact number of hours dedicated to this creative venture, Boll acknowledges that it required a considerable amount of effort. She noted a stark difference in the volume of materials needed for the two themes, stating that while she could fit most of her Titanic decorations into a small closet, the Oz collection demanded much more space.
Boll actively engages her audience on TikTok, frequently sharing videos of friends and guests marveling at her vibrant new decor. The reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, which caught her by surprise. “With Titanic, the responses ranged from shock to mixed opinions; however, the general feedback on Oz has been remarkably favourable,” she remarked.
Recently, Boll hosted a class of high school students from Arizona for a walk-through of her whimsical space. She is also receiving inquiries from parents wanting to bring their children to experience the magic of her reimagined apartment for special occasions. “Seeing kids’ reactions to it is truly wonderful,” she shared, illuminating the joy her creative space brings to others.
Interestingly, despite her intense dedication to the *Oz* project, Boll admits that she has only watched the classic film a handful of times compared to the over 500 viewings of *Titanic*. This perhaps highlights her deep connection with the maritime epic, something she hasn’t yet formed with *The Wizard of Oz*.
Looking ahead, Boll envisions expanding her artistic installations beyond her apartment. Her aspiration now lies in collaboration with immersive art companies such as Meow Wolf, hoping to take her creative flair to larger audiences.
Despite the effort and enthusiasm that has gone into creating this colourful wonderland, Boll is not planning to keep the *Wizard of Oz* theme for an extended period. “I might stick with it for a few more weeks,” she admits, leaving the door open for yet another transformation in her artistic journey.
