Country singer Brit Taylor has shared her reflections on the challenges she faced during her pregnancy, particularly while filming her music video for her single “Warning You Whiskey.” At nearly nine months along, Taylor navigated her struggles with body image, admitting to feelings of discomfort over showcasing her pregnant form in the video. Speaking candidly with PEOPLE, the 34-year-old artist stated, “To tell you the truth, I still can’t watch it. It makes me really, really uncomfortable. As a person who’s struggled with body image my entire life, I have realised that the mind can play some mean tricks on us.”

Despite her anxieties, Taylor decided to embrace vulnerability and bravery when releasing the video, though she was met with criticism. Some online commenters dubbed her efforts as “glamorising” pregnancy, echoing a wider societal expectation that women should conceal their bodies until after childbirth. “There’s always a couple of internet jerks,” she remarked. “People teach women that they should hide when they’re pregnant and hide their bodies and hide away from the world until they have their baby. I almost started second-guessing putting the video out. But then, I was like, ‘I’m just going to be brave.’”

Taylor’s journey into motherhood was not delayed by indecision. A former member of the country trio Triple Run, she felt the weight of societal assumptions that linked her worth to having children. With a hint of laughter, she said, “I mean, I’m not in my 20s. I waited a really long time for the perfect moment to have a child. And it was definitely the perfect moment.” Upon welcoming her daughter, Beulah, in October 2025, Taylor noted a profound change in her life. “You just have to experience it to understand it,” she explained.
As she prepares for an upcoming spring tour, where her husband Adam Chaffins and baby will also be accompanying her, Taylor emphasises the enriching impact of motherhood on her creative journey. “We want her to know she should chase the life that she loves,” she shared. This summer, Taylor will also take part in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s farewell tour, reflecting her desire to seamlessly blend her passion for music with family life.
Her new album, *Land of the Forgotten*, released in early March, captures the theme of duality—acknowledging that both joy and hardship coexist in life. “You can have so many blessings while going through life, but life can still be hard,” she articulated. Taylor’s music reflects her Appalachian roots while exploring complex emotions and experiences. The title track delves into her upbringing in Eastern Kentucky, a region historically significant to the bluegrass genre, which has also birthed icons like Loretta Lynn and Tyler Childers.
Taylor’s introspection extends to her creative process, exemplified in “Bird of Prey,” a haunting track reminiscent of Stevie Nicks. She recounted a pivotal moment in her life when she first encountered an owl at her home in 2016. “It was sitting on the fence post, and it was a moment that I realised my life was about to change,” she reflected. This encounter symbolised transition and rebirth, notable themes in her music.
Owls have taken on a mystical significance for Taylor and Chaffins, appearing at meaningful moments in their lives and their relationship. “For me, owls have become a symbol of divine protection and guidance,” she expressed. While Taylor acknowledges the emotional vulnerability linked to motherhood, noting that her thoughts may be influenced by postpartum hormones, she remains resolute in her life choices. “Every decision I made was the one I was meant to make,” she affirmed.
As Taylor navigates the complexities of motherhood and artistry, she remains steadfast in portraying authenticity in her music. Her album, *Land of the Forgotten*, encapsulates her unique perspective, marrying poignant life experiences with musical storytelling. Taylor’s commitment to embracing duality shines through, as she embarks on this new chapter in her life. The album is now available, inviting listeners into her world of highs and lows, all woven together by the threads of her Appalachian heritage.
