Despite the changes, the event attracted approximately 100 attendees who participated in costume-clad leaps into the lake, all in support of the INSPIRE program, a key initiative funded by proceeds from the plunge. Frost shared that her son is a participant in this programme, underscoring the significance of the fundraiser to local families.

Just two weeks prior, Jerry and Kit Boucher fell through ice while taking their dog for a walk on Valentine’s Day. While Kit’s body was recovered quickly, it took an exhaustive six days for rescuers to locate Jerry. In a news release, the Eastham Police Department detailed how his body was ultimately found in a marsh area about half a mile northeast of the Bee’s River parking lot, an agonising reminder of the dangers posed by frozen bodies of water.

The recent rescues and tragedies highlight the risks associated with ice-covered lakes, particularly as seasonal temperatures fluctuate. Local authorities and safety organisations continue to stress the importance of caution when engaging in winter activities near frozen waters.
