In the realm of extreme sports, few activities offer the thrill of skydiving, and 28-year-old Hana Terrell is making waves in this daring community. Based in Los Angeles, Terrell has attracted a following of over 55,000 on Instagram, where she shares her adventures jumping out of planes and hot air balloons across breathtaking locations worldwide. Since embarking on her skydiving journey in 2022, Terrell has completed an impressive 450 jumps, but she remains humble about her skills, describing herself as a novice compared to seasoned jumpers.

Terrell’s initial foray into skydiving took place during a vacation in Hawaii, where she overcame her fears and completed her first tandem jump. “I always thought I’d be too scared to leap from a plane,” she admitted, but the experience ignited a newfound passion. “I became obsessed,” she recalls, noting that as soon as she returned to Los Angeles, she set out to incorporate skydiving into her life more fundamentally.

Her determination paid off quickly. After completing a comprehensive training course consisting of 25 jumps, Terrell earned her skydiving licence. “After that, it’s just about training and building confidence in flying your body,” she explained. However, her journey hasn’t been without its challenges. During her 11th jump, an unexpected equipment malfunction forced her to put her emergency training into practice – a harrowing experience that tested her resolve early on.
During that fateful jump, Terrell realised something was wrong when she began spinning uncontrollably. Although she was still new to the sport, the emergency procedures taught by her instructors immediately came to mind. “I just knew I had to cut away,” she said. Thankfully, her second parachute deployed successfully, allowing her to land safely. Reflecting on the incident, she expressed gratitude that it occurred during training. “They really drill into you what to do in emergencies,” she noted, highlighting the importance of preparedness in skydiving.
Upon reaching the ground, Terrell made a swift decision to confront her fears. Following her instructor’s advice, she took to the sky again almost immediately. “That’s how you move on from it,” she explained. “If you go home and think about it, you might get scared.” With a determined mindset, she ascended in another aircraft, dismissing the statistical improbability of experiencing a malfunction twice in a single day.
Besides that incident, Terrell describes her subsequent jumps as relatively smooth. “I’ve had some sketchy openings, but nothing bad,” she remarked, emphasising that overall, her experiences have been positive. Despite her remarkable record, she maintains a level of humility, asserting that she still has much to learn in the sport, which has seen drastically improved safety measures over the years.
Terrell’s climb into the skydiving community goes beyond just numbers. Her passion not only fuels herself but also inspires others to consider skydiving. Social media has played a significant role in sharing her journey, allowing others to witness her adventures and perhaps challenge their own fears of heights or falling. Among her followers, many are intrigued by her fearless approach and the breathtaking visuals from her dives.
As she continues to jump in various stunning locations, including breathtaking coastal views and expansive landscapes, Terrell remains dedicated to honing her skills and growing as a skydiver. “I’ve only been doing this for a couple of years,” she said, indicating that there’s still much more to explore and discover in this exhilarating sport.
With each leap into the unknown, Hana Terrell not only embraces the thrill of skydiving but also encourages others to pursue their passions, no matter how daunting they may seem at first. Her story serves as a reminder that sometimes, facing our fears can lead to a life full of unforgettable adventures.
