On February 10, law enforcement officials released surveillance footage captured by a Nest doorbell camera, which showed a masked man armed with a gun approaching Nancy’s front door on the night she vanished. This video has provided a critical focal point for investigators as they work to piece together the events leading to her disappearance.
Following the release of this footage, Luke Daley, a 37-year-old Tucson resident, was detained during a SWAT operation conducted at his home. His residence is situated roughly two miles away from where Guthrie disappeared. However, Daley was subsequently released without charges. In his first public statement since the incident, he vehemently denied any involvement in the abduction, asserting that he is as perplexed as others about Nancy’s fate.
In an interview with Briana Whitney, host of True Crime Arizona, Daley expressed his frustration over being named as a potential suspect in light of social media speculation that likened him to the masked individual caught on camera on the night of the incident. “It’s not me,” he stated firmly, dismissing any resemblance to the assailant. He lamented the lack of credible evidence linking him to the scenario, stating that assumptions were made without substantiation.
Daley’s attorney, Chris Scileppi, confirmed that two search warrants had been executed at Daley’s home and that he had been detained for several hours while law enforcement carried out their investigation. According to Scileppi, neither Daley nor his mother had any meaningful connection to Nancy and shared the community’s hope for her safe return.
Nancy’s disappearance was reported to the authorities when her family called 911 after she failed to join friends for a virtual church service on February 1. To encourage leads, Savannah Guthrie announced the family’s commitment to offering a substantial reward for any information that could aid in locating her mother. They proposed a reward of up to £830,000, alongside a generous donation of £400,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
