A tragic incident at Nakiska ski resort in Canada has left a community mourning after a 15-year-old boy, Emilio Hrazdira, was killed in an avalanche. The event occurred on February 27, while Emilio and another skier were traversing a slope, engaging in what is known as “bootpacking.” Unfortunately, their activity triggered an avalanche at around 12:49 p.m.

According to a report from Avalanche Canada, both skiers were caught in the cascading snow. While one managed to extricate themselves without injury, Emilio was found fully buried and subsequently unresponsive. Emergency services transported him to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, but despite efforts, he was pronounced dead the following day, according to reports from local outlets such as the Calgary Herald and CTV News.
