The much-anticipated third season of the popular series ‘XO, Kitty’ is scheduled to debut on Netflix on April 2, 2024. Anna Cathcart, who plays the titular role of Kitty Song-Covey, recently shared her thoughts on the upcoming season during an event in New York City, where she offered some insight into her character’s journey.
Speaking at the Lunar New Year Gold Celebration, hosted by Gold House on February 12, Cathcart revealed a piece of advice she would give her on-screen counterpart. “She just needs to calm down a little bit,” the actress told PEOPLE. Her remark underscores Kitty’s signature chaotic spirit, which has captured the hearts of viewers. Cathcart added, “I feel like Kitty has the most chaos of anyone I know, and that’s what we love about her.”
In her advice to Kitty, Cathcart acknowledged the character’s vibrant personality but also highlighted the importance of finding balance. “But also, girl, you need to sit down sometimes,” she advised, suggesting that Kitty should take a moment to reflect and breathe amid the whirlwind of her teenage life. This sentiment seems fitting for the character, who has often managed her tumultuous experiences with grace.
‘XO, Kitty’ is a spin-off of the beloved ‘To All the Boys’ series, continuing the story of Kitty as she ventures to Seoul. In this season, she attends the Korean Independent School of Seoul (K.I.S.S.) and strives to rekindle a romance with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae, portrayed by Choi Min-young. However, as is often the case, things do not unfold as planned. To navigate her new surroundings, Kitty must forge new friendships and carve out a life for herself in the vibrant South Korean metropolis.
Season 2 concluded on a suspenseful note, with Kitty receiving a scholarship to K.I.S.S. and preparing to start her senior year. The finale left audiences on a cliffhanger, as Kitty was poised to confess her feelings for Min Ho, played by Sang Heon Lee. Just as she was about to express herself, Min Ho was whisked away to join his pop star brother, Joon Ho, on tour, leaving viewers eager for more.
Jessica O’Toole, the showrunner, reassured fans that despite the suspenseful ending of the previous season, the upcoming release would be worth the wait. “I know we left fans on a cliffhanger at the end of season 2, but I can promise season 3 will be worth the wait,” she stated, suggesting that viewers can look forward to not only romance but also friendship and adventure, with a promise of “lots of kissing.”
Since its premiere in May 2023, ‘XO, Kitty’ has garnered a dedicated following, prompting Netflix to renew the series for a third season on February 14, 2024. The announcement was made through a video posted on the platform, further building anticipation among fans.
Cathcart expressed her enthusiasm for the new season, stating, “I’m so, so excited for everyone to see season 3.” She hinted at significant developments for Kitty, indicating that the character would face pivotal decisions during her final year of school. “I’m finally allowed to talk about that because it’s been a secret forever,” she said. “I think they’re going to be surprised, but also super happy.”
The actress continued to emphasise the growth that Kitty will experience throughout the season, with important choices ahead for the character. “It’s senior year, all of that, so I’m very excited for them to see,” Cathcart noted, hinting at the transformative journey awaiting viewers in the upcoming episodes.
With its imminent release, ‘XO, Kitty’ promises to blend the familiar charm of its characters with fresh storylines, making it a must-watch for fans old and new. As the countdown to April 2 begins, viewers are preparing to rejoin Kitty on her adventures, eagerly anticipating the twists and turns that season 3 is sure to bring.
