Neighbor Reveals Last Moments of Woman, Mom Hacked to Death with ‘Curved Dagger’: ‘Screaming for Help’ and Banging on Her Door

In a tragic incident that has left a Virginia community in shock, Mamta Thapa and her mother, Binda Thapa, were brutally stabbed to death in their home earlier this week. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 23, was allegedly carried out by Chhatra Thapa, the victims’ father and husband, who subsequently died in a confrontation with police.

Mamta Thapa, aged 33, and her mother, 52, were attacked with a curved dagger, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. During the violent episode, Mamta’s husband was also severely injured while attempting to protect his family and is currently hospitalised in critical condition. Remarkably, the couple’s one-year-old child was present during the attack but, fortunately, emerged physically unscathed.

The harrowing events unfolded in Mantua, Virginia, where neighbours report hearing distressing cries for help. One neighbour, Ariana Eddleman, recounted the horrifying moments when Mamta banged frantically on her door seeking assistance. Eddleman, not knowing it was Mamta who was in distress, was hesitant to open the door and instead called 911, fearing for her family’s safety.

“I heard loud banging and then screams asking for help,” Eddleman stated in an interview. She indicated that by the time she looked through her peephole, Mamta had collapsed, which made her decision to call for help even more critical.

As police arrived on the scene following two 911 calls, they discovered a chaotic and blood-soaked scene. Investigators revealed that Mamta’s husband had been outside, clearing snow from the family’s vehicle when he heard the commotion inside and rushed in. It was at that point he encountered Chhatra Thapa violently attacking the family.

Police Chief Kevin Davis described the situation as dire, with officers finding a “bloodbath” upon their arrival. Chhatra was subsequently confronted by police, but after allegedly refusing to drop his weapon, he was shot and killed by an officer at the scene.

The community, particularly the local Nepali population, is now rallying to support the surviving family members. Mamta’s husband remains in critical condition, while the couple’s young child has been placed with extended family members for safety and support during this difficult time. Jasmine Miranda, a neighbour, expressed her sadness over the loss, stating, “They were very nice people in my community, and now they’re all gone.”
