3.2 Million Grill Brushes Recalled for Potential ‘Risk of Serious Internal Injury’ as 4 People Seek Medical Treatment

Weber, a prominent name in the grilling industry, has issued a major recall affecting approximately 3.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes. This action was taken in response to safety concerns over metal bristles detaching from the brushes during use, which poses a significant health risk to consumers.

On 26 February, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that the recall encompasses six specific models of Weber grill brushes. The decision was made following at least 38 reports indicating that metal bristles had come loose, a situation that could lead to the bristles contaminating food or becoming lodged in the grill. In the most severe cases, the ingestion of these bristles could necessitate medical interventions, including surgery.

Notably, Weber has already received four accounts of consumers requiring medical attention due to the ingestion of these metal bristles. The recall primarily affects six model numbers: 6277, 6278, 6463, 6464, 6493, and 6494. These products were available for purchase from a variety of retailers, including major chains like Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Target, and online platforms such as Amazon and Weber’s own website. The brushes were sold over an extended period, from 2011 until 2026, raising the possibility that many may still be in consumer homes.

Weber is advising consumers to cease usage of the affected brushes immediately. In an effort to ensure safety, the company is offering a replacement nylon bristle grill brush. Customers contacting Weber will need to confirm the disposal of the recalled brush before receiving a safe alternative. However, Weber has not provided any immediate comment regarding the recall when approached for clarification.

The CPSC’s announcement about Weber’s recall comes on the heels of another significant safety issue in the appliance market. Last month, Curtis International revealed a recall of 330,000 Frigidaire-branded miniature refrigerators. This particular recall follows an earlier one in 2025, which involved 634,000 units. Collectively, these actions amount to nearly 1 million units being recalled due to fire and burn hazards associated with the mini fridges.

Concern over these refrigerators arises from their internal electrical components, which have been reported to short circuit, leading to the ignition of the appliance’s plastic casing. Curtis International has documented at least 26 instances of appliances malfunctioning, with reports of smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or even catching fire. This information has led to heightened scrutiny over consumer safety in both the grilling and appliance industries.
