Renowned chef and Food Network personality Bobby Flay recently shared insights into his popular Instagram Q&A sessions during an interview with PEOPLE at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. With a knack for engaging his followers, Flay explained how these interactions are quick and spontaneous, often taking him no longer than four minutes to complete.
Flay revealed that his team compiles the questions from fans, allowing him to respond in the moment. He aims for authenticity in his answers, stating, “I literally answer those questions, I swear to you, in less than four minutes. My team gives me the questions, they write through all the questions, they give them to me. I answer them right away. And I want them to be very spontaneous.”

A recurring theme in these sessions is Flay’s relationship with fellow Food Network star Brooke Williamson, his girlfriend of nearly a year. He noted that queries about their cooking together and personal life have garnered the most interest. “I think probably the most popular ones are when people ask me about Brooke and cooking and stuff like that, because for some reason, people are interested in my love life,” he remarked with a chuckle. “I’m not really sure why, but they are. So have at it.”
Flay also mentioned that an episode of his podcast, “Bobby on the Beat,” featuring Williamson, became quite the hit. “People want to hear the story of our relationship,” he remarked, adding that Williamson’s own journey as a chef contributes to the appeal. The podcast, launched in November, aims to showcase various culinary personalities and their stories.
In addition to Williamson, previous podcast episodes have included notable figures such as Ayesha Nurdjaja and Marcus Samuelsson. “Ayesha has been an amazing addition to the titans on ‘Triple Threat,’ and she’s had a wonderful year and she deserves it,” he said. Flay expressed admiration for Samuelsson, highlighting his exceptional background as a chef. “He has one of the most interesting stories a chef could possibly have,” Flay added enthusiastically.
Hosting the podcast has been an enjoyable experience for Flay, who appreciates the informal nature of the discussions. “It’s informal and easy, and also I get to tell stories and get stories told by people in the industry in a way that they haven’t probably talked about their lives before,” he explained. “And ‘Bobby on the Beat,’ it’s all positive. We’re not looking for any gotcha moments or anything like that. It’s basically just to raise up everybody who participates in the industry.”
One of the challenges Flay faces with his podcast is attracting listeners. He emphasised the need for patience and the importance of consistently producing quality content. “I think you have to be patient and put out good quality content that people want to listen to and just basically continue to do it in a way that is beautiful,” he advised.
The South Beach Wine & Food Festival provided an excellent backdrop for Flay to reflect on his social media endeavours and podcasting adventures. As a figure who has navigated the culinary world with grace, his openness about his personal life and professional journey continues to resonate with fans and followers alike.
As Flay’s popularity shows no signs of dwindling, it will be intriguing to see how he further engages his audience through platforms like Instagram and his podcast. With a mix of spontaneity and sincerity, Bobby Flay appears to be winning over hearts in the culinary community and beyond.
