A group of ten women who flew to the Bahamas for a friend’s bachelorette party found themselves facing unexpected travel chaos as a historic blizzard swept through the northeastern United States. The trip, which began as a celebration on Harbour Island, took an unforeseen turn following the cancellation of their flights back to New York City due to severe weather conditions.

Casey Licari, a 35-year-old mother of two from New York, was one of the participants in the festive getaway. She mentioned that the group left for the Bahamas on Friday morning without any warning of the impending storm. Once there, the women enjoyed a range of activities, including boat excursions, wildlife encounters with sea turtles and pigs, and a lively karaoke night at Daddy D’s Nightclub. “We didn’t have a clue that anything was going to go wrong,” Licari recalled about their time in the sun.
However, their lighthearted trip took a somber turn during dinner on Saturday evening. As the group celebrated, they received a notification from American Airlines informing them that their return flights had been cancelled. “We were quite anxious,” Licari said. “There are ten of us, and suddenly we were scrambling to figure out how to get home.”
Their initial attempts to secure alternative flights or accommodations were met with disappointment, as all options were soon booked solid. Faced with the urgency of the situation, the group considered various means of transport. “We started looking at flights, Amtrak, and then thought we’d better rent a car as a fallback,” Licari explained.
Ultimately, the women decided to reroute their travel plans from New York to Miami, where they managed to book the last available minivan rental located thirty minutes away from Miami International Airport. “I wanted to get home as quickly as possible. My two young children were back in New York, and my husband was feeling unwell,” Licari said, expressing her desire to return swiftly.
Despite some scepticism from onlookers in Miami, including an Uber driver warning them they might not make it, the group of six women decided to embark on the journey from Miami to New York. “We were determined to prove the doubters wrong,” Licari shared.
With a mix of excitement and apprehension, the six friends set off on their lengthy road trip. Licari noted that having more people in the vehicle made the journey more manageable, as they could take turns driving and keep each other company. “It was quite entertaining, and we laughed through the whole thing,” she mentioned. Fortunately, they encountered pleasant weather, which lifted their spirits during the long drive.
Throughout the journey, Licari documented their experience on TikTok, sharing clips that featured their misadventures along the way. “We made the best of the situation, filming funny videos and just trying to enjoy the ride,” she explained. “It turned into a 20-hour adventure that only this group could handle, given our long history together.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Licari confirmed to PEOPLE magazine that they successfully returned home to New York. Despite the chaos that marred their return, the group emerged with a collection of stories and a unique road trip experience that they will undoubtedly treasure for years to come.
