David Begnaud, the renowned national correspondent for CBS Mornings, has embarked on a new venture aimed at uplifting audiences through positive human interest stories. His new media company, named Do Good Crew, made its official debut on 23 February, marking a significant shift in Begnaud’s career as he seeks to inspire change in a world often dominated by turmoil and tragedy.

After two decades of reporting on mass shootings, natural disasters, and various calamities, Begnaud eventually found himself facing severe burnout. Reflecting on his extensive career, he stated, “I’ve covered more massacres and mass shootings and knocked on more doors of mothers who had their children killed at school than I can remember.” This profound emotional toll catalysed his determination to focus on narratives that celebrate the human spirit.
The inception of Do Good Crew comes from the experiences Begnaud accumulated while interacting with people who exhibited remarkable resilience and a desire to create positive change even amid chaos. He recounted the harrowing experience of covering Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017, which, he said, “catapulted my career” but also highlighted the urgent need for a shift in his focus. “It became painful to report on tragedies but not be able to change things. My soul felt depleted,” he admitted.
At its core, Do Good Crew is about storytelling that shines a spotlight on individuals who embody kindness and altruism. As Begnaud explained, the company is designed to motivate others to engage in acts of goodwill. “Do Good Crew is a media company built around storytelling and celebrating people who are doing good and thereby activating other people to do good,” he remarked.
The company’s flagship offering is a podcast entitled “The Person Who Believed in Me with David Begnaud.” This podcast, which kicks off with a star-studded guest lineup including Oprah Winfrey, aims to explore the notion of gratitude and its role in personal development. Future guests will include notable personalities such as Barry Diller and Charlie Puth, as well as leaders from the tech and film industries.
In addition to the podcast, Do Good Crew will distribute a newsletter packed with inspiring stories and actionable efforts that readers can partake in. By doing so, the platform not only highlights extraordinary individuals but also provides avenues through which audiences can make a tangible difference. “When you sign up for the newsletter and start reading stories of these extraordinary people, we include calls to action,” Begnaud said.
Despite his commitment to this new endeavour, Begnaud will not be stepping away from CBS entirely. He continues to present his segment “Beg-Knows America” every Monday for CBS Mornings, balancing both responsibilities. “In a way, Do Good is a return to where it all began,” he remarked, emphasising that, while he has achieved great success at CBS, his passion has always been in unearthing the more profound, uplifting aspects of stories.
Begnaud fondly recalls a particular report on a teenager in Texas who selflessly assisted a couple whose car had spun out on the highway. After learning of the teen’s aspiration to become an EMT but hindered by financial constraints, Begnaud intervened, ultimately facilitating a scholarship that enabled the young man to pursue his dream. “Celebrating people who are doing good? There’s no better way to spend your day,” he declared.
The motivation behind Do Good Crew transcends mere professional ambition; it is deeply personal for Begnaud. “The truth is, I’m also doing it because my soul needs it. It’s soul-replenishing. So I’m trying to do that for other people too,” he explained. It is his hope that through storytelling, his new platform will ignite a spark of goodness within others, allowing them to contribute positively to their communities.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, Begnaud’s Do Good Crew represents a refreshing shift towards fostering inspiration and gratitude through storytelling. By choosing to spotlight goodness and resilience, Begnaud aims to create an engaging and impactful platform that resonates with audiences seeking light in challenging times.
