MAC Cosmetics is preparing for a significant launch as it announces its entry into Sephora, scheduled for March 2. To celebrate this exciting debut, the brand has unveiled a striking new campaign featuring pop star Chappell Roan, who has recently been appointed as a global ambassador. Alongside her, up-and-coming stars Gabbriette and Quenlin Blackwell will also be prominent in promotional imagery and video content.

The campaign showcases the diverse talent of each participant, aiming to highlight the versatility of MAC’s product range. Shot by Richard Burbridge, the visuals depict the trio in both bare and extravagant makeup styles. The concept encapsulates the transformative power of makeup, allowing users to transition from understated beauty to bold glamour with ease.

In a statement about her role, Chappell Roan expressed her enthusiasm for the brand’s partnership, noting, “I can’t wait for the time when I can share what we’ve made with people everywhere.” Her excitement reflects not only her personal journey but also the ethos of MAC, which has long been about self-expression and creativity.
The promotional material features a captivating video that is set to Portishead’s haunting track “Teardrop.” The opening lines capture the spirit of the campaign, with Roan declaring, “MAC is culture,” followed by Blackwell’s assertion that “MAC is for everyone,” and Gabriette’s statement, “MAC is sensation.” The video then illustrates each star applying various lip colours, manifesting their transformations through the use of makeup.
Makeup artist Andrew Dahling was responsible for crafting Roan’s two-tone lip look, which pairs MAC’s Auburn lip pencil and Marrakesh lipstick on the top lip with Stripdown lip pencil and Taupe lipstick on the bottom. He stated, “The look that we created for Sephora is a nod to the iconic 90s M.A.C mug! Timeless and impactful, this look highlights Chappell’s encapsulating eyes and showcases some of M·A·C’s most iconic lip shades.” Dahling also explained that the decision to feature a simpler aesthetic was intentional, honouring the legacy of MAC while embracing the brand’s new global venture.
In addition to Roan, Gabbriette and Quenlin Blackwell’s appearances were styled by makeup artist Lilly Keys. Gabbriette’s lips were defined with the lip pencil in Greige, complemented by Fleshpot lipstick and Accolade lip gloss. Meanwhile, Blackwell was styled with a combination of the Chestnut lip pencil, Whirl lipstick, and Clear lip gloss.
The campaign’s overarching message is one of transformation and self-empowerment, according to MAC’s Global Creative Director, Nicola Formichetti. He said, “That shift from minimal to maximal is the essence of MAC. It reflects the complete range of looks you can create and the freedom of expression that defines us.” This philosophy resonates deeply as MAC continues to evolve and attract a diverse customer base, embracing individuals from all walks of life.
The timing of this campaign is particularly noteworthy given that it follows the announcement of Doja Cat joining the brand as an ambassador in September. Roan described her partnership with MAC as “full circle,” signifying a profound connection with the brand’s values and mission of inclusivity in beauty.
In preparation for the launch, the excitement around the collaboration is palpable, with both fans of the stars and beauty enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the opportunity to explore MAC products at Sephora. This new venture is anticipated to further cement MAC’s reputation as a leader in the cosmetics industry and inspire a new generation of makeup lovers.
MAC Cosmetics is set to launch its products at Sephora on March 2, with the anticipation that this campaign will resonate with consumers and set a new standard for beauty brand collaborations. As the brand continues to innovate and engage with its audience, upcoming releases and events are sure to keep beauty enthusiasts on the edge of their seats.
