Reports indicate that the majority of the tigers, 51 in total, died at Tiger Kingdom Mae Taeng, while 21 were reported dead at the nearby Tiger Kingdom Mae Rim. In response to these unusual fatalities, Tiger Kingdom Mae Rim has implemented a temporary closure of 14 days to allow for further investigation and analysis of the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Preliminary examinations from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Chiang Mai University revealed that the deceased tigers tested positive for canine distemper virus (CDV) and mycoplasma bacteria. Co-infection with these pathogens can result in serious complications, potentially contributing to the high mortality rate observed among the tigers. Additionally, preliminary tests have suggested the presence of feline parvovirus (FPV).

Before these tragic events, Tiger Kingdom operated with a population of 246 tigers, setting a grim benchmark as the largest mass death of tigers recorded in the region.
