A New York City teenager has been reported missing for over a week following a disagreement with his father. Jafet Jemmott, a 15-year-old from the Rockaways area, was last seen leaving his home on November 28th, according to information provided by the New York City Police Department (NYPD).

The conflict arose the night before Jafet went missing, as he expressed a desire to visit a Brooklyn thrift store before heading to the Kings Plaza mall with friends. His father, Federico Jemmott, revealed that they argued about this plan, leading to a tense last conversation. Federico expressed deep remorse over the situation, stating, “I don’t even want to think about it.”
The family suspects that Jafet may have interacted with someone online who persuaded him to leave home. Despite assuming he was pursuing his initial plans, which his phone’s tracking app seemed to confirm, he never arrived at the mall. The last known location of his phone signal was traced to the Cross Bay Bridge, where it abruptly shut off due to low battery.
Concerningly, Jafet’s family noticed suspicious WhatsApp messages on his phone shortly before his departure, but they were unable to view the contents or identify the sender. Federico speculated that these messages may have influenced Jafet’s decision to leave suddenly in the early hours of the morning.
Described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 140 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair, Jafet was last seen wearing a black sweater, pants, and white sneakers. His sudden disappearance has sent shockwaves through his community, with prayers and support pouring in for his safe return.
Local activists and volunteers have rallied to initiate search efforts in the Cross Bay area, distributing flyers and combing the vicinity for any leads. Federico, overwhelmed with worry and regret, expressed his desire to reconcile with his son, emphasising his love and seeking forgiveness for their final argument.
Authorities urge anyone with information on Jafet’s whereabouts to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online. The family, along with the community, remains hopeful for Jafet’s swift and secure return home.
The disappearance of Jafet Jemmott serves as a poignant reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by young individuals, especially when navigating online interactions and external influences. The search for Jafet continues to mobilise support and resources, emphasising the unity and resilience of the community in times of crisis.
