The Hopkinton Police Department confirmed that Macleod, aged 70, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital post the accident. However, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Little did Macleod know that his peaceful morning walk would turn into a tragedy caused by 41-year-old Shannon Godbout. The driver, who veered off her lane, struck Macleod along with two telephone poles. As per the police, Godbout was found in possession of illegal narcotics and associated packaging materials typically used for drug distribution. She was promptly arrested at the crash site and taken to Westerly Hospital for further evaluation.

Godbout currently faces initial charges, including driving leading to death and possession of narcotics meant for distribution, which signal her repeat offender status. The police have hinted at the possibility of additional charges as the investigation unfolds.
Godbout’s criminal record is alarming, with over 100 arrests, 82 issued court warrants, and 40 traffic citations to her name. The authorities disclosed that she’s under close watch while being detained at the hospital for further legal proceedings. Collaborating with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, the Hopkinton Police Department is meticulously building a case against Godbout to bring her to justice.
