Scarlett Johansson has opened up about the awkward start to her romance with her husband, Colin Jost. The actress, aged 41, shared details about their first date, revealing why Jost, 43, initially had doubts about their future together.

Speaking on the Monday episode of Today with Jenna & Friends which she co-hosted, Johansson disclosed, “My first date with Colin, honestly, nobody ever really asked me out before.” She continued, “I’m telling you. People say that, but it’s true. I was a serial monogamist and I just never got the traditional, ‘Hey, would you like to have dinner sometime?’”
Johansson went on to recall the specifics of their date back in 2017, mentioning that it began smoothly at an Italian restaurant in the East Village. “It was a lovely date,” she shared. “We had dinner at 8 p.m. or whatever, and then afterwards, he was like, ‘I’m meeting friends, let’s go grab a drink.’ And I hadn’t dated basically ever, and so I was like, ‘I have to go now. I need to leave.’”
The decision to leave early left even Johansson’s babysitter puzzled when she arrived home sooner than expected. “I got home to relieve my babysitter and it was like 9:36, and she was like, ‘Why are you home?!’” Johansson recounted. “I was like, ‘I went on this date, and it was.…’ I just felt so flustered.” This peculiar behaviour seemed to have thrown Jost off, with Johansson revealing, “Later on he was like, ‘I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird. I panicked. I don’t know.’”
Despite the awkward start, the couple eventually found their way back to each other and tied the knot in 2020. They now share a son, Cosmo, who is 4 years old. Johansson and Jost first met in 2006 when she hosted SNL, however, they only started dating years later.
