**Death Toll from Hong Kong High-Rise Fire Rises to 36, 3 Arrested**
A tragic fire in Hong Kong has resulted in the loss of 36 lives, making it the deadliest fire the city has seen in decades. The incident took place at Wang Fuk Court in the Tai Po district, with the blaze breaking out at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time on November 26, as reported by the Hong Kong government.

According to a Hong Kong Police spokesperson, three individuals have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the fire. Among the victims was firefighter Ho Wai-ho, aged 37, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. He had dedicated nine years of service at Sha Tin Fire Station.

The firefighting team faced challenges during the operation, with one firefighter losing contact at around 3:30 p.m. and later being found collapsed. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead. Andy Yeung, director of the fire service, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of the brave firefighter.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee acknowledged that 279 individuals were still unaccounted for following the incident. He stressed the importance of prioritizing the extinguishing of the fire, rescuing trapped residents, and providing necessary support to the injured and affected individuals.
The high-rise fire marks the deadliest in Hong Kong since the Garley Building fire in 1996, which claimed 41 lives. The cause of the current fire is under investigation, with initial reports pointing to the presence of green construction netting and bamboo scaffolding on the building, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.
Eunice Chan Hau-man, the District Officer for Tai Po, stated that over 700 people had been evacuated from the apartment complex and relocated to temporary shelters for their safety. The community rallied together in the face of the disaster, with efforts focused on ensuring the well-being of all impacted residents.
Following the devastating event, Chief Executive Lee expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and those injured in the fire. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive assistance to those affected by what he described as a “major disaster.”
As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the blaze, authorities are working to piece together the events leading to the tragedy. The city of Hong Kong mourns the loss of lives and stands united in support of the affected individuals as they come to terms with the aftermath of the fire.
In times of crisis, communities come together to offer solace and aid to those in need. The resilience of the people in the face of adversity shines through, reminding us of the strength found in unity and compassion during challenging times.
