Former GOP congressional aide, Natalie Greene, who once served under Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.), is now facing charges for allegedly orchestrating a fake attack where she claimed to have been assaulted by three men. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey has filed a criminal complaint accusing Greene of staging the incident with the help of another individual.
The complaint details that Greene paid a scarification artist from Pennsylvania to create wounds on her body just hours before reporting the attack. Furthermore, a friend, identified as Co-Conspirator 1, called 911 to report that they had been ambushed on a trail in Egg Harbor Township on July 23, 2025. Greene was found by law enforcement officers tied up with zip ties, with lacerations on her face, neck, chest, and shoulder.

During the alleged assault, phrases like “TRUMP WHORE” and “[Federal Official 1] IS RACIST” were written on her body. Co-Conspirator 1 claimed to the 911 operator that three men had attacked them and made references to Greene’s employer during the incident, as stated in the complaint. Greene recounted being grabbed, bound, beaten, and threatened with a gun by her attackers.
However, further investigations revealed that Greene’s wounds were actually inflicted by the scarification artist in Pennsylvania. The complaint states that Greene had driven to the artist’s studio, paid for the cuts, and selected specific patterns to be carved into her skin. Photos provided by the artist matched the wounds documented on Greene’s body at the hospital later that night.
Detectives also discovered evidence on Greene’s phone linking her to body modification and scarification communities online. Her digital footprint included searches for the artist’s studio, directions to the scene of the staged attack, and conversations about the procedure with the artist. Notably, Co-Conspirator 1 had searched for “zip ties near me” days before the incident, as per prosecutors.
Greene appeared in federal court on November 19, 2025, where she faced charges of conspiracy to convey false information and hoaxes, as well as making false statements to federal law enforcement. She was released on a $200,000 unsecured bond but is required to adhere to court-imposed conditions. The case has garnered attention for its bizarre twists and the alleged attempt to fabricate a politically motivated assault.
The incident raises questions about the motivations behind such elaborate deceptions and the potential consequences of falsely claiming to be a victim of a crime. It serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigations to uncover the truth behind reported incidents before passing judgment or drawing conclusions. The legal proceedings involving Greene shed light on the complexities of cases involving alleged hoaxes and the impact they can have on both the accused and the broader community.
As the case progresses through the legal system, it will be crucial to examine the evidence presented and allow justice to run its course. The allegations against Greene highlight the need for transparency and accountability in addressing incidents of this nature. Stay tuned for further developments as the legal proceedings unfold and more details come to light regarding this unusual and perplexing case.
