Oliver Hudson recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to discuss the unique wedding rule he implemented for his marriage to wife Erinn back in 2006. The actor opened up about his decision to have a ‘no husbands’ policy at the wedding, shedding light on the controversial detail during the show that aired on November 18.

During the segment, Oliver reacted to a PEOPLE story about a bride enforcing a no-kids policy at her wedding, leading to her relatives changing their RSVPs to ‘no.’ Drawing parallels to his own experience, Oliver shared that he and Erinn chose to have a small wedding in Mexico. He noted, “I am a pretty private person, and my wife is from the East Coast, and she had all of her high school girlfriends and her college girlfriends who were coming. And I said to her, ‘That’s fine, but their husbands — I don’t want them at my wedding.'”
Explaining his rationale behind the ‘no husbands’ rule, Oliver expressed a desire to maintain privacy and avoid introductions to unfamiliar individuals on his wedding day. Despite initial surprise from his wife, Erinn, Oliver stood firm on the decision. He recounted the interaction, stating Erinn’s disbelief at the request but ultimately complying with the arrangement.
The actor revealed that while the women’s husbands attended the Mexican destination, they did not partake in the wedding festivities. Instead, they enjoyed a separate vacation, allowing the female guests to fully engage in the celebrations over the three-day event. Oliver shared that despite initial concerns, Erinn’s friends accepted the terms as they valued the opportunity to visit Mexico.
Oliver and Erinn exchanged vows on June 9, 2006, in a beachside ceremony witnessed by 94 guests, including notable figures like Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn, and Kurt Russell. The couple has since found success in their marriage, maintaining a key rule of staying connected despite potential time apart due to work commitments.
Reflecting on the importance of individuality within a relationship, Oliver emphasised the need for personal space and pursuits. He highlighted the significance of allowing each other the freedom to engage in individual activities while upholding a strong partnership. Oliver’s insights shed light on the dynamics of a lasting and fulfilling marriage, providing a glimpse into his own successful union with Erinn.
The actor’s candid revelations on The Drew Barrymore Show offered a unique perspective on wedding traditions and relationship dynamics, sparking conversations on the different approaches couples may take to personalise their special day. Oliver Hudson’s ‘no husbands’ policy serves as a reminder of the diverse ways couples navigate wedding planning and emphasise the importance of mutual understanding and communication in relationships.
