Ex-Prince Andrew Makes Public Appearance Following Loss of Titles

Former Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after being stripped of his royal titles, has been sighted for the first time in public since King Charles made the decision to remove his titles. The ex-Prince was spotted riding a horse at Windsor Castle alongside a female companion. This marks his first appearance in public since the title removal. The sighting indicates that Andrew, aged 65, still resides at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, despite plans for him to relocate to the royal family’s private Sandringham estate following the royal title removal. The former Duke of York is expected to vacate the Royal Lodge as soon as possible, as formal notice for him to surrender the lease has already been served.
In addition to losing his royal titles and changing his name, the removal of plaques bearing Andrew’s name at public buildings in the Falkland Islands has been confirmed. These plaques had recognised Andrew’s contributions as a helicopter co-pilot in protecting the overseas British territory from military invasion in the 1980s. Moreover, Defence Secretary John Healey affirmed that Andrew’s honorary rank as vice admiral in the Royal Navy has also been revoked. However, King Charles allowed his brother to retain the medals he earned during his service.
All these changes in Andrew’s status and titles came after he decided to step back from his public royal duties in 2019, following a controversial BBC interview where he discussed his ties with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in prison. Queen Elizabeth subsequently stripped Andrew of his military titles and patronages in January 2022, after he failed to dismiss a sexual assault lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, which he eventually settled out of court. Despite maintaining his titles for some time, Andrew eventually announced on October 17 that he would give up his royal titles and other honours, eventually culminating in the formal process to remove all titles and styles, including ‘prince’ and ‘His Royal Highness’, as announced by Buckingham Palace on November 3.
The scrutiny around Andrew intensified in recent weeks, with revelations from Giuffre’s posthumously published memoir alleging her encounters with Andrew. The memoir detailed disturbing instances where Andrew allegedly believed having sex with her was his birthright, further complicating his already tarnished reputation. Leaked emails also revealed Andrew’s continued contact with Epstein, despite claiming to have cut ties with him earlier. Throughout these allegations and controversies, Andrew has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, though the public and the royal family remain critical of his actions.
