A tragic incident unfolded at the Grand Canyon as a 65-year-old man lost his life after slipping and falling over the edge of the iconic landmark. The man’s body was discovered 130 feet down by search and rescue teams on the western side of the Grand Canyon. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue department was instrumental in recovering the man’s body on Thursday, Nov. 6. The victim, who remains unidentified at this time, met his untimely demise near Guano Point.

Efforts to retrieve the man’s body involved a collaborative response, with the MCSO’s Search and Rescue team working alongside the Hualapai Nation, Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security. Specialized techniques, including the use of ropes, were employed to bring the man’s body back up from the canyon’s depths. Following the recovery operation, the man’s remains were transported to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
This tragic incident adds to a recent string of fatalities at the Grand Canyon, with a similar incident involving a 27-year-old man who plunged to his death in September after his vehicle went over a rim in the national park. The National Park Service confirmed the grim discovery near the South Kaibab Trailhead, where the vehicle had nosedived 300 feet below the rim. The victim of this earlier incident was identified as Steven (Drew) Bradley, 27, of Federal Heights, Colo.
