A young hiker with a dying headlamp and phone was rescued after following trail markers to safety in a heartwarming rescue operation. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department received an emergency call in the evening of Oct. 26 about a hiker on Mount Washington facing dire conditions. The hiker, identified as Owen Strommer, 20, from Rhode Island, was found on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, just below the summit. Strommer’s headlamp and phone were near depletion, with no backup equipment or preparations to stay overnight.
The challenging weather conditions at Mount Washington’s summit added to the urgency of the rescue. With snowfall and temperatures as low as 21 degrees Fahrenheit, the situation was critical.
