Shoshana Bean Opens Up About Why She Hasn’t Watched the First ‘Wicked’ Movie Yet (Exclusive)

Shoshana Bean, the former Broadway star of “Wicked,” reveals exclusively to PEOPLE why she has chosen not to watch “Wicked: Part 1” yet, even as the sequel, “Wicked: For Good,” is set to hit theatres on Nov. 21. Bean played the iconic character Elphaba on Broadway from 2005 to 2006 and is gearing up for the release of her new album, “Only Smoke,” on Nov. 4.

In an exclusive interview at the New York Restoration Project Hulaween Gala in New York City on Friday, Oct. 24, Bean shared her decision to wait to watch the first movie of the franchise so she can enjoy both films back-to-back. The 48-year-old artist expressed her excitement about watching both movies in succession, highlighting her anticipation to see the song “No Good Deed” come to life on screen.

Bean explained, “I waited until the second, so I could watch them back-to-back,” emphasising her eagerness to experience the cinematic adaptation of the song. She praised the film director Jon Chu’s vision, stating, “It’s a very cinematic song, and I would love to see it have more life than what a stage is capable of doing. I could not even possibly imagine to the extent that Jon Chu’s genius can dream, can create.”

In “Wicked: For Good,” Cynthia Erivo will take on the role of Elphaba, singing the emotionally charged “No Good Deed.” The movie will also feature Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, and Ethan Slater as Boq.
