Moonlight Companies Issues Recall of Peaches Nationwide Citing Listeria Concerns
Fruit giant Moonlight Companies has recently taken action to recall yellow and white peaches that were sold across the United States due to potential bacterial contamination. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported that these peaches, grown in California, may have been affected by Listeria monocytogenes, prompting the voluntary recall.

The recall affects peaches that were sold between September 16 and October 29, 2025, at various major retailers including Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Sprouts, and Food Lion. It is important to note that peaches labeled as “Washington” and/or “Organic” are not included in this recall. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has highlighted the severity of Listeria infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as pregnant individuals, newborns, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
Listeria is a serious concern as it can lead to severe illnesses, and in some cases, be life-threatening. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include fever, headache, muscle aches, seizures, and confusion. Consumers are urged to be cautious and check their fruit purchases to ensure they are not part of the affected batches.
Moonlight Companies released a statement on October 29 indicating their voluntary recall of yellow and white peaches grown in California. The recall covers individual pieces of fruit with PLU stickers, as well as multi-packs, that were distributed during the specified timeframe. Major retailers like Kroger, Trader Joe’s, and Sprouts were among those selling the potentially contaminated peaches.
Major grocery chains have been proactive in alerting their customers about the recall, emphasizing the importance of food safety. The FDA has provided a list of affected PLU stickers and lot numbers, enabling consumers to verify if their purchased peaches are part of the recall. As the CDC ranks Listeria as the third leading cause of death from foodborne illnesses in the US, swift action is crucial to prevent further health risks.
This recall comes on the heels of a recent incident involving frozen spinach products also being recalled due to Listeria concerns. As food safety remains a top priority for consumers, it is essential for manufacturers and retailers to be vigilant in monitoring and addressing any potential contamination issues promptly. Stay informed and stay safe when it comes to food consumption to protect yourself and your loved ones.
