A tragic incident at an off-roading park in South Carolina has left a 28-year-old woman dead after being pinned under an ATV. This marks the second accidental fatality at the same park in recent weeks.

Larissa Cubas was riding a four-wheeler at Carolina Adventure World in Winnsboro when the ATV rolled over and landed on top of her, trapping her underneath. Despite the efforts of first responders to provide aid, the young woman from Charlotte, N.C. was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by NBC affiliate WYFF, NBC affiliate WIS, and CBS affiliate WLTX.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of Larissa Cubas’s death, and an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing. The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office, the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, and Carolina Adventure World have yet to respond to requests for comment.

Carolina Adventure World, advertised as “the southeast’s largest outdoor playground,” spans over 2,600 acres and offers more than 120 miles of UTV, ATV, and dirt bike trails. The park enforces a strict “riders’ code of conduct,” which includes safety regulations such as wearing appropriate protective gear and practicing caution while on the trails.
Unfortunately, this tragedy comes shortly after another fatal accident at the park earlier this month. On October 4, 33-year-old Miguel Meza was involved in a dirt bike accident at the same location and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Columbia, S.C. The coroner’s office reported that Meza was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Carolina Adventure World urges all visitors to be mindful of the risks involved in off-roading activities and to exercise courtesy towards others. The park emphasizes the importance of maintaining personal awareness and using common sense to reduce potential hazards while enjoying the outdoor recreational opportunities it provides.
As the investigation continues into these tragic events, our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of Larissa Cubas and Miguel Meza during this difficult time. Accidents like these serve as a stark reminder of the importance of following safety guidelines and being vigilant while engaging in recreational activities, especially those that involve motor vehicles.
The authorities are actively looking into both incidents to determine the circumstances that led to these untimely deaths. It is crucial for all visitors to such parks to adhere to safety protocols and exercise caution to prevent further tragedies from occurring in the future.
