First Lady Melania Trump recently revealed the White House Halloween decorations for 2025. The back of the Executive Residence was adorned with pumpkins and leaves, creating a festive fall theme. Despite facing criticism for her holiday decor choices in the past, insiders had predicted that Melania would excel in decorating for the holidays during her husband’s second term.

As controversy swirls around the extensive construction projects at the White House, Melania took the opportunity to showcase the Halloween decorations. The White House’s official account posted a photo of the decorations in progress, showing the back entrance and staircases lined with pumpkins and colourful leaves cascading between the South Portico’s columns. The decor this year seems to lean more towards a generic fall theme rather than a spooky Halloween vibe, perhaps to cater to the young guests attending the traditional trick-or-treat event with the president and first lady.
In previous years, Melania had embraced spookier themes for Halloween. Her 2019 decorations featured spindly trees and orange lighting to set a mysterious ambiance. Despite the simpler decor this year, past events have showcased a variety of decorations, especially during the socially distanced 2020 Halloween celebrations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Melania’s relationship with holiday traditions at the White House has not always been smooth. A leaked audio recording in 2020 captured her frustration about being scrutinized for the aesthetics of the Trump presidency and her Christmas decorations. However, sources close to Melania indicated that she would continue White House traditions, including decorating for the holidays, on her terms during her husband’s second term.
While Melania is expected to participate in White House traditions, a recent report suggests that she does not support the demolition of the White House’s East Wing to make way for a new ballroom. Unlike previous renovations that Melania may have collaborated on, the plan for the ballroom reportedly does not have her backing. The Wall Street Journal claimed that Melania raised concerns about the project and distanced herself from it, according to administration officials.
As Melania enters her second term as first lady, her approach to holiday decorations and White House traditions remains under scrutiny. Despite past controversies and challenges, Melania is expected to continue showcasing her unique style and taste in decorating the White House for the holiday season.
