Newly released footage of Jay Cutler’s October 2024 DUI arrest shows the former NFL star refusing to take a field sobriety test. The Franklin Police public affairs department shared the video of Cutler’s arrest, which occurred after he rear-ended another vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol. The video captures the interactions between Cutler, 42, the police officer, and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the incident.

In the video, after conversing with both Cutler and the other driver, the officer questions Cutler about his alcohol consumption that day. Initially, Cutler denies having consumed any alcohol, claiming “none” when asked. However, upon further questioning, Cutler admits to having consumed “a little bit” of alcohol. When offered a sobriety test to determine his fitness to drive, Cutler firmly declines, stating, “No,” leading to his immediate arrest and placement in handcuffs.

Following Cutler’s arrest, police discovered a loaded handgun and rifle in his vehicle, resulting in additional charges alongside the DUI charge. Cutler faced charges for illegally possessing a weapon while intoxicated, implied consent violation, and failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision. Subsequently, Cutler pleaded guilty to the DUI charge on Aug. 26 before a Williamson County judge, receiving a four-day jail sentence and a $350 fine. The weapon charge was dismissed in exchange for surrendering the pistol.
Having served two and a half days out of his four-day jail sentence, Cutler was released at the end of September. In addition to the jail time and fine, Cutler is now on unsupervised probation for a year and required to attend a DUI safety class. Moreover, his Tennessee driver’s license has been revoked as a consequence of the incident.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision filed a lawsuit against Cutler, alleging that the former NFL quarterback was responsible for the crash due to his intoxication and failure to exercise reasonable care on the road. The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory damages, citing lost wages, loss of earning capacity, and other expenses incurred as a direct result of the collision.
In response to Cutler’s arrest, his ex-wife, Kristin Cavallari, expressed her hope that he receives the necessary help, emphasizing the importance of addressing the situation. Cavallari, who was married to Cutler for seven years before their divorce in 2020, acknowledged the public incident involving her ex-husband on her podcast, urging support for Cutler during this challenging time.
The release of the body-cam footage has shed light on the events surrounding Jay Cutler’s DUI arrest, highlighting the consequences of driving under the influence and the legal ramifications that can follow. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behaviour on the road and the potential repercussions of impaired driving.
