Renowned actors Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons recently opened up about their experience working together on the intense new movie, ‘Bugonia’. The duo discussed how they managed to find moments of levity and connection during the filming of the gripping thriller.

In the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed film, Plemons portrays a conspiracy-obsessed character who abducts a high-powered CEO, played by Stone, under the belief that she is an alien plotting the destruction of planet Earth. Despite the dark and intense nature of the movie, Stone, 36, and Plemons, 37, found ways to lighten the mood on set and build camaraderie.
Plemons highlighted the importance of striking a balance amidst the demanding filming schedule of ‘Bugonia’. He described the experience as a relentless sprint marathon that pushed them both mentally and physically. To counteract the intense atmosphere, the actors made a conscious effort to incorporate moments of fun and connection during breaks in filming.
One of the ways Stone and Plemons found common ground was through their shared experiences as parents. Plemons, who shares two sons with his wife Kirsten Dunst, and Stone, who has a daughter with her husband Dave McCary, bonded over their conversations about their children. According to Plemons, discussions about their kids became a natural and welcome respite from the intensity of filming.
Despite the challenging conditions of shooting much of the movie in a confined basement setting, Stone and Plemons managed to inject humour and light-heartedness into their interactions. Stone jokingly remarked that their seriousness only lasted for about 30 seconds each day, emphasizing the shared sense of camaraderie and mutual support that developed among the cast and crew.
In addition to finding solace in their conversations about parenting, the actors also made time to engage in playful moments together on set. Plemons shared a humorous anecdote about encountering wallabies during a night shoot outside London, highlighting the unexpected and memorable experiences they shared during the filming process.
Stone’s collaboration with Lanthimos on ‘Bugonia’ marks their fourth project together, following their successful work on ‘The Favourite’, ‘Poor Things’, and ‘Kinds of Kindness’. With Stone’s track record of acclaimed performances, including an Oscar win for ‘La La Land’, ‘Bugonia’ is poised to captivate audiences with its reimagining of the 2003 South Korean film ‘Save the Green Planet!’
As ‘Bugonia’ hits select theaters on October 24 before its nationwide release on October 31, fans can anticipate witnessing the dynamic on-screen chemistry and behind-the-scenes camaraderie between Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Their ability to find levity and connection amidst the intensity of filming serves as a testament to their professionalism and the enduring bond they share as co-stars.
