A UK man has been handed a substantial prison sentence for sexually assaulting multiple women who fell victim to his lure of free teeth whitening services at his salon. Ricky Stubberfield, aged 31, received a 26-year prison term followed by six years of probation after being convicted of rape, sexual assault, and a range of other offenses. The case, which unfolded in Plymouth, UK, saw Stubberfield targeting eight female victims aged between 16 and 27.

According to the Devon and Cornwall Police, Stubberfield’s modus operandi involved contacting popular young women on Instagram and enticing them with complimentary treatments at his teeth whitening and tanning salon. These free services were offered in exchange for the victims promoting his business on their social media platforms. The authorities further revealed that between 2022 and 2024, Stubberfield abused five women, some of whom were subjected to sexual misconduct while receiving teeth whitening treatments.

During the course of his heinous acts, Stubberfield took advantage of the victims’ vulnerable state, often while they were undergoing treatments with a mouth guard in place. He was reported to have sexually assaulted the victims, solicited photos, and made forceful sexual advances towards them. Some of the victims were also exposed to indecent behavior, including acts of indecent exposure. The crimes came to light when a 16-year-old girl reported two instances of sexual assault by Stubberfield during a concert, following which the police initiated an investigation.
As the investigation unfolded, further victims came forward, recounting instances of sexual assault by Stubberfield in different years, solidifying the case against him. At his sentencing hearing, the judge condemned Stubberfield’s actions as “utterly remorseless predation,” highlighting the significant risk he posed to the public. Detective Inspector Marcus Hodges commended the victims for their strength and bravery in coming forward and expressed hope that they could find closure and move forward with their lives.

The outcome of Stubberfield’s trial sheds light on the significance of creating a safe and respectful environment for all individuals, free from the threat of sexual violence.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability many individuals face when seeking services, and the importance of remaining vigilant against potential predators who exploit such vulnerabilities. The justice system’s response to such crimes plays a crucial role in not only delivering justice to the victims but also in deterring future perpetrators. The sentencing of Stubberfield to a lengthy prison term reflects the severity of his actions and sends a powerful message about the consequences of predatory behavior.
