Jenni and Austin Foster, a couple from North Carolina, shared a unique adventure just days before their wedding. The duo decided to take on a thrilling challenge like no other, completing various outdoor activities all while dressed in their wedding attire. This extraordinary experience was about more than just having fun; it symbolised the strength and partnership that they believe marriage represents.

Two days before their wedding on Sept. 17, Jenni and Austin set out on what they described as a “bold” adventure challenge. Clad in a wedding dress and suit, respectively, the couple ventured into the Nantahala River and the Nantahala National Forest to partake in hiking, kayaking, biking, and white-water rafting. This unconventional pre-wedding journey was meant to showcase their belief that they can overcome any obstacle together.
Jenni, 28, expressed to PEOPLE, “We feel like we can get through whatever comes our way.” The Adventure Wedding Dress Challenge, as it is known, was designed to challenge conventional notions of marriage. Created by Jess Kawamura, co-owner of Nantahala Weddings & Events, the challenge encourages couples to face life’s adventures side by side as equals.
The challenge began at sunrise and required the couple to complete a series of tasks before sunset. Starting with a 7.5-mile hike, Jenni and Austin then moved on to kayaking around the island in Nantahala Lake, followed by a 6.6-mile bike ride and finishing with white-water rafting at the River Pull Out. Throughout the day, the couple was guided by photographer Molly Harris and guide Ben Griswold, ensuring their safety and capturing their unforgettable moments.
Despite the physical demands and unexpected challenges, Jenni and Austin persevered through each activity. From struggling with kayaking in a wedding dress to enjoying a picturesque bike ride to navigating the rapids while white-water rafting, the couple pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and emerged stronger than ever. Their adventure concluded with a heartfelt ceremony where they were awarded a personalised charcuterie board to commemorate their accomplishment.
Reflecting on the experience, Jenni shared, “It brought us closer than we have ever been. We learned a lot about ourselves and who we want to be in our marriage.” The couple’s courageous feat not only tested their limits but also reaffirmed their belief in the power of unity and resilience in marriage.
The Adventure Wedding Dress Challenge not only served as a fun and adventurous activity for Jenni and Austin but also as a meaningful journey that deepened their bond and strengthened their commitment to each other. Their story is a testament to the idea that love and partnership can conquer any challenge that comes their way.
