Charlie Otero, a survivor of the BTK Killer’s brutal crimes, has come a long way since the tragic events of 1974. At just 15 years old, Charlie found himself at the center of a nightmare when his family fell victim to the heinous acts of Dennis Rader, also known as the BTK Killer. On that fateful day in January 1974, while Charlie and two of his siblings were away at school, Rader entered their Wichita home and mercilessly murdered their parents, Joseph and Julia, along with their youngest siblings, Josie and Joey.

Rader’s reign of terror didn’t stop there – seven months after the murders, he began using the moniker “BTK” in a letter to The Wichita Eagle, proudly claiming responsibility for the Otero family killings. The case went unsolved for nearly 30 years until Rader’s capture in 2005, following his taunting letters to the press. With DNA evidence in hand, Rader was finally brought to justice and sentenced to 10 consecutive life terms.

Despite the trauma he endured at a young age, Charlie Otero has shown incredible resilience in the face of unimaginable grief. In the aftermath of the murders, Charlie embarked on a journey of healing and self-discovery.
