A father and his young son have gone missing in Illinois, prompting an extensive search effort by local authorities. Todd Sabatini, 36, and his 22-month-old son, Theo, were last seen together on the afternoon of August 8, sparking concern among family and friends after their routine outing took a troubling turn.

According to the McHenry Police Department (MPD), Todd left their home in McHenry around midday to take his son for what was described as a typical walk. However, by 4 p.m. that day, the pair had still not returned, prompting family members to reach out to the police. The authorities confirmed that Todd’s prolonged absence was highly unusual and noted he left without adequate provisions for both himself and his son.
The missing persons case took a critical turn when investigators discovered Theo’s stroller abandoned behind a business in the area. This discovery heightened worries for the safety of both the father and child. Security camera footage later revealed that Todd and Theo were seen at a local Jewel-Osco supermarket, where Todd appeared to be reaching out to someone at the Zion Lutheran Church nearby. Additionally, he engaged with staff at a Taco Bell during this time.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Todd had acquired a rideshare service and travelled to the Greenfield Police Department in Wisconsin. Here, he interacted briefly with an officer before departing on foot around 2 p.m. on the same day. The MPD noted that this pattern of behaviour was out of character for Todd, prompting them to collaborate with the Greenfield Police Department to ascertain the welfare of both him and his son.
The search efforts intensified as the MPD took to social media to circulate information about the missing pair, sharing images and descriptions. Theo was last seen wearing a blue shirt paired with dark shorts, while Todd was described as wearing a blue and black flannel shirt, a grey tank top, jeans, and Converse shoes. Importantly, police noted that Todd is now clean-shaven, which is a change from some of the images the department circulated that showed him with facial hair.
As the investigation continues, the MPD has stated that both Todd and Theo have been entered into law enforcement databases as missing persons.
