The iconic Atari brand, known for its vintage video games, is gearing up to launch its own immersive hospitality experience, the company announced in a press release on December 17th. This venture is set to revolutionize the concept of hotels for modern gaming, pop culture, and sports enthusiasts, offering a unique and interactive stay. Atari Hotels is all set to introduce the world’s first truly playable hotel, with plans for construction to kick off next year.

The upcoming Atari-themed hotel in Phoenix is grabbing attention with its ambitious features, spanning across 90,000 square feet of “experience-driven” spaces. Among its highlights are a 2,000-person concert and event center, an esports venue with a 10,000-square-foot sports book, multiple gaming areas, music and nightlife spaces, dining options, retail outlets, and a vibrant oversized pool designed for lively gatherings and parties.

Jordan Taylor, a partner at Intersection Development, expressed that Atari Hotels aims to blend the interactivity of gaming with the hospitality industry. The hotel’s design, developed in collaboration with the studio Räkkhaus, takes inspiration from popular franchises like Tron and Blade Runner, creating a visually striking structure characterized by light and motion. The building, located in Phoenix’s sought-after Arts and Entertainment District, promises to be a cutting-edge architectural marvel.
Architect Zac Cohen from Räkkhaus emphasized that the focus is on innovative spatial design rather than traditional themed décor. With elements like a prominent LED-lit breezeway that changes in color and motion based on different factors, the hotel will offer a dynamic and engaging experience for guests. Expect to find hidden easter eggs and references to classic video games like Asteroids, Pong, and Tetris intertwined throughout the property’s design, paying homage to Atari’s legacy.
The hotel’s interior design doesn’t fall short on creativity either, with 19 suites and 72 rooms specifically symbolizing the founding year of Atari in 1972. Moreover, catering to elite gamers, a plush “Baller Suite” will boast exclusive amenities including a private pool, spa, and sun deck. The investment in this groundbreaking project has already hit $14 million, with construction scheduled to commence towards the end of 2026, targeting a grand opening in the mid to late stages of 2028.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the creative minds behind the Atari Hotels project shared their vision of redefining hospitality through a fusion of architecture and interactivity. As excitement builds for this innovative concept, enthusiasts and travellers eagerly anticipate the arrival of the Atari-themed hotel experience in Phoenix. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking venture that promises a one-of-a-kind stay for gaming aficionados and pop culture enthusiasts alike.
