Sherrone Moore Confronted University of Michigan Staffer Before Leaving Town

Sherrone Moore, a former football coach at the University of Michigan, was involved in a concerning incident with a staffer as she was packing to leave town, according to police reports. The series of events unfolded as the staffer had filed a formal complaint about their ‘intimate relationship’ with Moore on December 10. This incident led to Moore being terminated from his position on the same day for violating a school policy that prohibits supervisors from engaging in relationships with their supervisees.

The staffer, whose identity remains undisclosed, informed police that she had just submitted her official report to the University of Michigan and intended to leave town after doing so. Upon returning to her apartment to gather her belongings, she alleged that Moore unexpectedly arrived at her home. The staffer recounted hearing footsteps outside and, feeling unsafe, rushed to lock the door. Moore allegedly entered the apartment without permission and proceeded to brandish two knives while accusing the staffer of ruining his life.
In a dramatic turn of events, the staffer managed to contact her lawyer as Moore continued his confrontational behaviour. Moore purportedly made threats, prompting the lawyer to call emergency services. Subsequently, Moore fled the scene but was apprehended by law enforcement shortly after. Both Moore and the staffer acknowledged their ‘intimate relationship’, which Moore claimed had spanned approximately two years. It was revealed that Moore is currently married with three young daughters.
As a consequence of the incident, Moore was arrested and charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering. Following his arraignment, Moore posted bail and was released under certain conditions, including wearing a GPS tether and undergoing mental health treatment. He is also prohibited from any contact with the staffer and is set to appear in court for a probable cause hearing on January 22, 2026.
The University of Michigan’s policy, implemented in 2021, discourages intimate relationships between supervisors and supervisees. While the policy does not outright ban such relationships, it mandates that supervisors must disclose any relationships and establish a management plan to prevent abuse of power or favouritism in the workplace. Moore’s termination aligns with the school’s commitment to maintaining an inclusive and respectful work environment, free from coercion or harassment.
In response to enquiries, neither the staffer’s lawyer nor Moore’s legal representative provided comments. Moore denies assaulting or threatening the staffer in the past.
