The incident, which occurred on Sunday, Dec. 14, at approximately 6:40 p.m. local time, involved two gunmen opening fire on the unsuspecting crowd.

Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a British-born individual who had recently welcomed his fifth child, a son, just six weeks prior to the attack, was described by his cousin, Rabbi Zalman Lewis, as “a wonderful person” who had a positive impact on many lives. The devastating news of Rabbi Schlanger’s death was shared by his cousin in a heartfelt Facebook post, where he expressed the profound loss felt by the family and community. Schlanger’s brother-in-law, Mendel Kastel, also emphasized his kind and influential nature, highlighting his role as a prison chaplain and a respected leader.

The terror attack not only claimed the life of Rabbi Schlanger but also resulted in the deaths of at least 14 other individuals, with one of them being a child. Additionally, around 40 people were injured and subsequently hospitalized as a result of the violence that transpired. The assailants, confirmed by the police to be a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son, unleashed chaos before law enforcement intervened. The father was fatally shot by the police, while his son sustained critical injuries and is currently under medical care.

Among the victims of this tragic incident was Holocaust survivor Alex Kleytman, who heroically shielded his wife, Larisa Kleytman, during the brutal attack.
