Musician Grimes recently made claims that her ex-partner and co-parent, Elon Musk, has blocked her on the social media platform X. The singer, who shares three children with the tech billionaire, addressed the situation after noticing that Musk no longer follows her on the platform.

In response to a user observation about Musk’s actions on X, Grimes, 37, stated, “For context, I’m just living my life. He followed me then blocked me. I’m not going to be following and unfollowing. My only priority is co-parenting; I am not interested in public dramatics.” She added, “This is so silly lol.”
Musk, 54, and Grimes first became linked in 2018 and welcomed their first child together, X Æ A-Xii, in May 2020. Subsequently, the couple quietly had two more children: daughter Exa Dark Sideræl via surrogate in December 2021 and son Techno Mechanicus in June 2022. Grimes filed a legal petition in October 2023 to establish parental rights for all three children.
In November 2024, Grimes revealed that she had postponed releasing new music due to a custody battle with Musk, sharing her emotional struggles in a post on X. The singer expressed feelings of being at odds with the system and enduring challenges while separated from her children.
Over the following months, Grimes openly expressed concerns about Musk’s parenting choices. In response to Musk bringing their oldest child to the Oval Office, Grimes stated that she was unaware of the public appearance and emphasized the importance of keeping their children out of the limelight.
In an interview with TIME, Grimes addressed the media’s portrayal of her comments, highlighting her plea for privacy for her children and expressing her discomfort with their images being widely circulated. She reiterated her stance on consent to fame and the need to protect her children from public scrutiny.
In March, Grimes reiterated her plea for privacy, revealing that she had attempted various methods, including legal intervention, to keep her children offline. She expressed frustration over the lack of effective solutions to safeguard her children’s privacy in the age of the internet and questioned the absence of laws to protect young children from public exposure.
The ongoing challenges faced by Grimes and Musk in their co-parenting relationship have attracted public attention and sparked discussions about the boundaries between personal and public life, especially regarding the privacy and well-being of children in the digital age. The couple’s situation serves as a reminder of the complexities of navigating shared responsibilities and individual identities in the public eye.
As Grimes continues to advocate for her children’s privacy and parental rights, her public statements shed light on the personal struggles and emotional toll of high-profile co-parenting dynamics. The evolving narrative between Grimes and Musk underscores the importance of respecting boundaries and prioritising the well-being of children in the spotlight.
