This edition of the festival is particularly significant as it will be the last to be held in Utah before moving to Boulder, Colorado in 2027. Additionally, it is the first festival since the passing of the Sundance Institute founder, Robert Redford, who died at the age of 89 on September 16. The event will pay tribute to Redford’s legacy and visionary contributions to independent filmmaking.

Amanda Kelso, the Acting CEO of Sundance Institute, expressed that the 2026 festival will be a momentous occasion to celebrate artists, honor Robert Redford, and show appreciation to Utah for hosting the festival over the years. The institute aims to continue fostering creativity and connections while promoting independent storytelling to audiences worldwide.
The programming lineup for the festival includes 90 feature films and seven episodic projects from 28 different countries. Some of the highlighted projects feature Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan in “Josephine,” producer-star Natalie Portman and Charli xcx in “The Gallerist,” and Olivia Wilde’s directorial venture “The Invite,” starring Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton.
Notable stars such as Alexander Skarsgård will be featured in multiple projects at the festival, including “Wicker” with Olivia Colman and Peter Dinklage, as well as “The Moment” alongside Charli xcx. The festival will kick off with premieres and events in Park City and Salt Lake City, followed by at-home programming in the latter half.
As part of the festival’s programming, a special event will be held to honour Robert Redford, where actor Ed Harris and filmmaker Gyula Gazdag will receive the Robert Redford Luminary Award. This recognition serves as a testament to Redford’s enduring impact on the world of cinema and independent filmmaking.
The Sundance Film Festival has always been a platform for emerging talent and unique storytelling, and the 2026 edition is poised to continue that tradition. With a diverse range of projects and a star-studded lineup, the festival promises to be a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the power of independent cinema to inspire audiences around the globe.
