Avery Fisher, a 15-year-old teenager, holds a remarkable achievement: she set the Guinness World Record for performing the most magic tricks underwater in three minutes back in 2023 when she was just 13 years old. This talented young individual learned how to scuba dive during the COVID-19 pandemic, showcasing her determination and passion for the ocean. She accomplished this feat by performing 38 magic tricks underwater at the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco, a place she had always cherished visiting.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought about feelings of isolation for many, including Avery Fisher. Living in Tiburon, Calif., alongside the bay, Avery felt a strong connection to the water since her childhood. With a deep love for the ocean and its marine life, she decided to utilise her free time during the lockdown creatively. Encouraged by her father, Jon, she embarked on a scuba diving journey, a decision that proved to be a turning point in her life.
Following rigorous training and earning various certifications, Avery’s dedication paid off as she achieved the extraordinary feat of setting a world record underwater. Not only did she break records, but she also became a youth ambassador at the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco, where she now volunteers for around 10 hours per month. This commitment reflects her ongoing passion for ocean conservation and raising awareness about environmental issues.
Avery’s interest in conservation was sparked during her time at the aquarium, especially as she explored the underwater tunnels. Witnessing the beauty and diverse marine life below the surface instilled in her a profound desire to make a difference. Her experiences, from family vacations centred around the water to close encounters with whales, instilled in her a deep appreciation for the ocean’s wonders.
Through her diving certifications with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, Avery honed her skills and expanded her knowledge of scuba diving. From initial training in open water to pool testing and numerous ocean dives, Avery’s journey has been one of continuous learning and growth. Her dedication to mastering different certifications and spending hours in the water demonstrates her commitment to pursuing her passion.
Despite her busy schedule as a high school sophomore juggling academics and volleyball, Avery still finds time to volunteer at the aquarium and engage with visitors. Her dedication has not gone unnoticed, as she is currently in talks for a potential sponsorship deal. Looking ahead, Avery envisions diving opportunities not only in California but also globally, aspiring to explore marine environments worldwide.
Avery Fisher’s story serves as an inspiring example of how determination, passion, and a love for the environment can lead to extraordinary achievements. Her impact extends beyond breaking records, as she continues to advocate for ocean conservation and inspire others to protect our planet’s precious resources. With a bright future ahead, Avery’s journey exemplifies the power of youth in creating positive change for a sustainable future.
